Getting started is as easy as contacting us at our phone numbers or email addresses listed on the contact page.
When you contact us, we’ll set up a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation to get to know you and determine if we are a good fit for each other.
During the call, we welcome you to ask questions about our backgrounds and therapeutic methods.
What is your hourly rate?
Our rate for individual therapy is $170 per hour. We are in network with Aetna, United Healthcare, Medicare, Cigna and Tricare insurance. If we see you out of network (ie, if your current insurance does not include the panels in which we are in network), we can bill your insurance company for you, if you would like. We currently take credit cards (including HSA), cash and checks.
What is the first session like?
The first session is not necessarily therapy, per se, but rather a time for us to get to know each other. Finding a good fit for a therapeutic relationship is essential, and the meaning of “good fit” is different for everyone. If you feel like you are with a therapist who is competent, professional, nonjudgmental and compassionate, who also fosters a safe environment, this is a good sign. The first session is also a time for us to determine if we have the competency, knowledge and experience with the issues you are bringing forth; if we decide that the presenting issues are outside our area of expertise, we have a variety of strong referrals we can provide.
What do you think makes change possible?
We think it’s a combination of readiness and willingness. First, we believe the person must be in a place in their lives where they are ready for therapy. This doesn’t mean that the person can’t feel ambivalent about starting therapy—in fact, most people are. But the person has to be in a place where they are motivated to work on themselves and want to see change happen through their own actions. We also believe change requires some willingness on behalf of the client. Willingness to be open to try whatever may work, knowing that some things may work very well, and some things may not work as well. Willingness to embrace the learning process. If these things are in place, and if the person is with a therapist whom they feel can provide the right amount of guidance and support, then change is very possible.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, we are psychologists (who have a doctorate degrees) and only psychiatrists (who have an M.D.) are allowed to prescribe medication. If, in our work together, we feel that medication may be beneficial, we are happy to have this discussion with the client where we can discuss the pros and cons. We are also happy to provide various psychiatric referrals.
When are you available?
We are available weekdays during business hours, and provide some evening availability during the week, depending on the provider. We are not available weekends and we are NOT a 24 hour crisis clinic. If you have an emergency outside of business hours and you are unable to reach your provider, please go to your nearest urgent care clinic or emergency room or call 911. The suicide hotline is available 24/7 at: (800) 273-8255.
